About Us

We are an ever-expanding group of passionate eccentrics dedicated to restoring the Martin house with the aim of creating both a living museum and B&B.

Mission: To honor the legacy of James Everett Martin, his family and the home he built in 1896.  By restoring and preserving this historic home to our city's sixth mayor and grandfather of John Nash, Nobel Prize Laureate, we hope to engage people of all ages in exploring and celebrating the rich history of the region and one of Bluefield, West Virginia's founding families.

Martin House Heroes
Lucille & Robert Howell saved the Martin home from demolition in the early 1960s.

They changed the minds of those who wanted to go forward with city plans to destroy the house to make way for a metered parking lot.

It is the only house on the block to survive the city's urban renewal.
